Synopsis: An alien race inhabits Earth and, as all humans are mysteriously gone, they take physical form in the bodies of vanished people--and fictional characters--like Christ, Ringo Starr, and Orpheus. In these bodies, the aliens attempt to decipher the bizarre cultural relics left behind, all the while slowly adopting the values of human civilization.

Publisher's Note: The surface story tells of the problems a member of an alien race, Lo Lobey, has assimilating the mythology of earth, where his kind have settled among the leftover artifacts of humanity. The deeper tale concerns, however, the way those who are "different" must deal with the dominant cultural ideology. The tale follows Lobey's mythic quest for his lost love, Friza.

In luminous and hallucinated language, it explores what new myths might emerge from the detritus of the human world as those who are "different" try to seize history and the day. Industry reviews: Delany's 1967 novel won the Nebula Award for Best Science Fiction Book. The plot follows a race of aliens, the Lo Lobey, who colonize Earth after humankind's departure and try to make sense of our existence good luck! Condition: Binding - very good, slight wear to the tips of the book, the page edge gilding has quite a bit of spotting and a little rubbing (see pictures below - because the page edges are shiny, the pictures didn't come out that well), the top and one side edge of the collectors note is age darkened (the note was originally not folded and the edges that stuck out beyond the pages of the book darkened, the note is now folded neatly in half as many of the collectors notes in these books came), the top of the ribbon bookmark is a bit faded and soiled where it stuck up above the top page edges. Dust jacket - none, as issued. We have moved the extensive text we used to have here to those FAQs. Please do not ask us to do otherwise. This item is in the category "Books & Magazines\Books".
