Title:The Rise and Destiny of the German Jew, Jacob Marcus, 1934, 417 pages. Amongst my vast collection of. This book however had a personal aspect in Einstein's life. As Einstein left Germany in 1933, this book came out the following year. It describes the background and the (then) current and past history of German Jewry and the rise of Hitler and Nazism.

The book describes some of the background which led to Einstein's leaving Germany for good. One can imagine Einstein reading this book and seeing himself reliving some of the events described in the book and Hitlers rise to power and persecution of the Jewish people. This is truly a "amber plucked from the fire" and a piece of monumental history! Why was this book thrown out and chucked into the recycling bin? At first I myself did not notice the signature but intuitively decided to open it up to the blank inner page. I simply could not believe it! Here was the signature of one of the greatest minds that ever lived!

I saw the condition of the book and realized that the library that threw it out simply could not deal with the mildew that accumulated and decided not to bother with the book at all. I tried to clean it with some wet ones, but some of the mildew stain still remains on the inner cover and first 5 pages of the book, and the last 3 pages of the book (2 of which are blank). Einstein's signature is however clean so anyone who decides to rebind this book anew will have a truly precious treasure on their hands! CONDITION: Outer cloth cover stained. Inner covers have mildew which have been cleaned and dried.
